Food Evolution, explores the complexity of cultural attitudes to GMOs and food, and investigates how easily fear and misinformation can overwhelm objective, evidence-based analysis. Join one of the stars of the film, Dr Alison Van Eenennaam, a science communicator and an animal genomics and biotechnology specialist, together with Professor Robert Henry, a plant geneticist and Professor of Innovation from the University of Queensland – for a new perspective on the GMO debate.

The Researchers in Agriculture for International Development(RAID) network, together with the Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI), are hosting a free networking event to be held in conjunction with the TropAg2017 conference.The event is supported by the University of the Sunshine Coast (USC).

Next-generation sequencing has made genotyping cheap and fast so that many plant breeding programs today have access to whole-genome information for thousands of parental lines and progeny alike. This facilitates the construction of linkage-maps and genome-wide association studies which together are powerful tools to investigate the genetic architecture of complex or quantitative traits.
