Selina Fyfe is a PhD candidate studying ‘Characterising the potential of the green plum (Buchanania obovata) as a native Australian fruit’. She was a medical scientist before changing to food science. She has a Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Science) from QUT, a Grad Dip Div from ACT, a Master of Public Health from JCU and a Master of Food Science and Technology from UQ.

Selina works with A/Prof Yasmina Sultanbawa and Dr Heather Smyth from Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI), Dr Horst Schirra from the Centre for Advanced Imaging at UQ, and with international collaborators Prof Michael Rychlik from Technical University of Munich and Honorary Professor at UQ, and Prof Philippe Schmitt-Kopplin from HelmholtzZentrum Muenchen and Technical University of Munich.

Researcher biography

Selina Fyfe is a Research Fellow at the Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation, the University of Queensland. She is currently studying Australia's food system with the UQ and CSIRO Food System Horizons project. Her PhD thesis focused on the Australian green plum (Buchanania obovata) and included research in food chemistry, metabolomics, nutrition profiles, food sensory analysis, physical properties, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and changes in the green plum through growth and maturation, across locations and harvest years, as well as a chapter on responsible research with Australian native plant foods. Prior to food science, she was a multi-skilled medical scientist working in pathology laboratories. She has a Masters of Food Science and Technology (UQ), a Masters of Public Health (JCU) and a PhD (UQ).
