Professor Neena Mitter, a global leader in plant stem cell multiplication technology and pioneer of the revolutionary new BioClay high tech crop spray, was honoured at the 2019 India Australia Business & Community Awards (IABCA) in Brisbane on 11 October 2019.
The IABC Awards are Australia’s largest platform dedicated to celebrating the Australia India Relationship. In 2019, the IABCA received nearly 300 applications from India and Australia.
The judging panel announced Professor Mitter as the winner of the Australia India Science, Research & Development Award 2019.
In their citation, the judges acknowledged Professor Mitter as one of Australia’s leading agricultural biotechnologists.
“Neena’s career and passion for delivering real world outcomes is informed by her Indian heritage which recognises the significance of agriculture in shaping the world, economically, socially, environmentally and politically. She has spearheaded the development of a broad program of cross-functional innovative solutions for profitability and productivity of Australia’s $60 billion agriculture industry. Her high impact science and exceptional industry engagement has led to two commercially focused innovations namely “BioClay for non-GM and non-Toxic environmentally sustainable crop protection; and ‘Clonal propagation of avocado using plant stem cells’.”
Professor Neena Mitter is Director of the Centre for Horticultural Science at the Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation based at The University of Queensland.
