Abstract

Cattle ticks are a significant burden on global agriculture, affecting livelihoods and global food security. Chemical treatments are the only method of control, but ticks are adapting and building resistance to these chemicals, an immediate problem that requires urgent and effective solutions to protect cattle industries in Australia and globally. This seminar will outline current research strategies that present new solutions to this problem and highlight where they can have cross species and cross parasite application.

Dr Hannah Siddle

Dr Siddle is a researcher in vaccine development and genomics, specialising in combating parasites. She completed her PhD at the University of Sydney and has held research fellowships at the University of Cambridge and currently at University of Queensland. In 2022 Dr Siddle joined the Queensland Alliance for Agriculture & Food Innovation applying expertise in animal disease, immunology and genetics to cattle production. She has recently been awarded an Australian Research Council Industry Fellowship to develop new rapid tests for detecting chemical resistance in ticks.
