Abstract

Dr Barbara George-Jaeggli has always been passionate about sustainability, conserving natural resources and seeing the bigger picture. She doesn’t just apply these principles to the small farm she runs with her husband, but they also guide her career choices and the projects and initiatives she has supported over the last 30 years as a researcher with DPI and QAAFI. In this seminar, she will reflect on how her training as an ecologist and then crop physiologist helped her never lose sight of the bigger picture. The result is a career path that is non-linear and may end where it started.

Dr Barbara George-Jaeggli

Dr Barbara George-Jaeggli studied biology and agricultural ecology at ETH in Switzerland. Since coming to Australia in 1996, she has held research positions with the Department of Primary Industries and for the last ten years, with QAAFI. She has a PhD in Crop Physiology, and her research aims at improving the sustainability of dryland agriculture. She has conducted detailed studies of how crop traits affect resource use efficiency, but she is also interested in the sustainability of the broader agri-food system and its interactions with natural resources.
