Researcher biography

An internationally-recognized leader in her field, Dr Maggie Hardy is a biochemist and science communicator with a broad range of research interests and substantial expertise in science policy. In 2015, she was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Entomological Society in the United Kingdom. Dr Hardy serves on the Executive Board for the International Branch of the Entomological Society of America, is a Director for the nonprofit Tech Girls Movement Foundation, and is on the Executive Advisory Board of the Australian nonprofit Bravehearts. Her research program is focused on the discovery and characterization of novel insecticides from the venom of Australian spiders. Dr Hardy was selected as one of the Advance Queensland Community Digital Champions for her work in digital inclusion and science communication. She is an advocate for equity and diversity in higher education and careers in research, and has a particular interest in open access discovery programs.
