Angela O’Keeffe has a Bachelor of Applied Science majoring in biotechnology and life sciences. She has worked in a variety of technical research positions which has provided her with the opportunity to acquired high level technical expertise in various biotechnology methods. Her last role was as a senior research technician working in Professor Robert Henry’s Research Laboratory, where she was responsible for the generation of high-quality RNA samples for sugarcane transcriptomes. Angela has presented posters as first author at TropAg2017 on her work optimising sugarcane differential gene expression and at TropAg2019 on the anatomical features of sugarcane fibre quality. Angela’s principal advisor is Professor Robert Henry who is Institute Director of Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation. Professor Henry is an expert on plant genomics and genetics and the application of DNA technology to the improvement of the quality of crops and agricultural and food products. She is also a member of CSIRO Agriculture and Food - Advanced Breeding Technologies group, where her associate supervisor is Dr Karen Aiken, a principal scientist at CSIRO working on the genomics and genetics of sugarcane. Dr Aitken has over 20 years’ experience in sugarcane research with focus on understanding complex plant genomes and polyploidy.
