We invite you to attend the QAAFI Final of the 2021 Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition.

The 3MT is an academic competition that challenges PhD students to describe their research within three minutes to a general audience. 3MT celebrates the discoveries made by research students and encourages their skill in communicating the importance of research to the broader community.

The winning student will go on to compete in the 2021 Institute 3MT Competition.

All UQ academic and professional staff and students (Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Research) are welcome to attend this event.

Competitor registration is now open. 

It is encouraged that every QAAFI HDR student will participate in the 3MT at least once during their candidature. Confirmed PhD students can compete in all finals, while MPhil and unconfirmed PhD students can participate up to the Institute Final.

What is 3MT?

The University of Queensland, 3MT competition cultivates students’ academic, presentation, and research communication skills. Presenting in a 3MT competition increases their capacity to effectively explain their research in three minutes, in a language appropriate to a non-specialist audience.
