The 8th Animal Science Poster Olympics 2026
The Animal Science Poster Olympics were established in 2012 by Professor Ala Tabor, and is hosted by QAAFI's Centre for Animal Science.
This year's event is organised by A/Prof Elizabeth Ross, Dr Karishma Mody and Dr Mehrnush Forutan, leading the continued growth and evolution of this well-established initiative.
Now in its second decade, the competition has consistently attracted more than 50 participants, bringing together research higher degree students and early career researchers from across academia, government, and industry, creating a vibrant and collaborative research community.
Competitors present research across a wide range of animal science disciplines, including genetics, nutrition, animal health and welfare, microbiology, and aquaculture, covering multiple species such as cattle, sheep, pigs, poultry, and aquatic systems, positioning the event as one of the most diverse and dynamic showcases in the animal science calendar.

Registration is now open and closes August 14, 2026.

Registration is FREE and catering is provided. It is required to attend this event or compete in the poster Olympics.Prizes to be announced shortly.

FAQs
Who can enter the competition?
- The poster competition is open to all Animal Science Researchers.
- Specific categories are limited to Honours, Masters, HDR, and ECRs.
- Participants are welcome from all universities, UQ institutes, schools and faculties, CSIRO, the Queensland Department of Primary Industries, and any other related animal science backgrounds.
Who is categorised as an ECR?
An Early Career Researcher (ECR) is someone who is, at the time of the event-within their first eight years of academic or other research-related employment, allowing for uninterrupted stable research development following completion of postgraduate research.
Eligibility
- Entrants must be available to present their poster on 28 August 2026 between 1 and 4 pm.
- Honours students are encouraged to apply but can only claim their award prize whilst still a student or during a subsequent PhD studies program.
