Industry leaders will take to the stage in Rockhampton on May 10 as part of the “Sustainable Beef: The Northern Frontier” seminar at Beef Australia 2018.
Hosted by the Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI) at The University of Queensland, the seminar will be chaired by Australian beef industry luminary David Crombie AM.
Mr Crombie said the seminar will highlight the ever changing landscape of the beef industry, giving further insight into the market for producers and consumers.
“The one thing that is certain, in our beef industry, is that change is a continuum and we have to maintain a sharp, laser-like focus on the needs of our customers,” Mr Crombie said.
“Our production system is about becoming more and more efficient and covering the integrity and ethical issues,” Mr Crombie said, adding consumers wanted an assurance the beef industry was producing a product in a suitable and acceptable environment.
Held in the James Lawrence Pavilion at Beef Australia, the seminar will run from 8.30am-10am and feature short talks from leading beef researchers from QAAFI.

The talks will focus on genomics, animal welfare and nutritional strategies with the audience hearing from professors Ben Hayes and Alan Tilbrook, along with Dr Luis Prada e Silva.
Mr Crombie said the seminar will also have a strong all-female industry panel discussion led by Susan McDonald (Super Butcher), Lucinda Corrigan (Rennylea Pastoral Company) and Tess Camm (Signature Beef).
“There are three very talented and experienced panellists covering everything from the supply chain and genetics, through to beef production and consumer perception,” Mr Crombie said.
“We’re going to be addressing issues and instigating discussion in relation to research and customer expectations around the future of sustainable beef production in northern Australia.”
